Description

Vitra Pacific Chair is a minimalist office chair created by Edward Barber & Jay Osgerby. The design duo’s design is exemplified by their guiding principle of “full performance, quiet design” – and achieved a harmonious combination of these two characteristics.

With the exception of the base, the Pacific Chair has no mechanical components visible from behind due to the extended backrest. The designers were particularly aware of the complexity and over-functional contraptions that have most office chairs consisting mainly of controls and levers. Minimizing the visual impact of these elements became the focal point of the design.

Although not readily visible, the Pacific Chair offers all the sophisticated functions necessary for ergonomic seating. The height-adjustable back and armrests form part of the same vertically aligned profile, which allows users to easily shift their position to sit sideways. A synchronized mechanism within the chair automatically responds to the weight of the respective user, offering immediate personalized comfort and precise counterweight on the backrest for optimal comfort.
